Craven Cottage what a terrific ground this is. Perched on a bend right on the edge of the tidal Thames, it is passed annually by the University Boat Race and a small number of migratory Atlantic Salmon chancing their fins on navigating a multitude of locks between Fulham and their breeding grounds upstream.
Designed by Archibald Leach, football’s equivalent of Augustus Pugin, Fulham’s football ground is a treasure. Extended and developed over the years it has never lost its character, largely due to the f act that there is a very picturesque cottage tucked into one corner.
This high roofed, white gabled structure is fronted by a seated balcony with ornate, roseate carving and delicate iron works. Plonk this next to the first eleven cricket pitch at any of England’s finest private schools and the egg and cress sandwiches would taste just fine.
Lovely forward defensive Crispin.
Just upstream can be found the Fullers Brewery, whose existence and influence on all surrounding pubs help make this a fine football ground indeed.
